TM.  Was going to run outside, but it's too cold (-10 w/windchill).  Ran inside with wool socks, not recommended!!  Felt good, could have gone longer. 9:15P.

Also did 1hr hot yoga.

Welcome to the blog!!

Enjoy your preparation for Ogden. It will be a fun journey and I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. :)

Wednesday run if it is not below 0 again.

Welcome to the blog! Best of luck to you getting ready for Ogden, it is such a beautiful course.

There is no way to run outside in this cold without the wool socks! I have been borrowing my husbands, but, I have only ventured out a few times. The treadmill will have to do for now!

Thank you for the warm welcome folks!!! I figured this was a great way to stay motivated as I begin the LONG journey of training for Ogden. I never thought I'd want to run a marathon, thinking half's were satisfying enough... But Jeff Fogg and Jeff Shadley (yes Burt, Shadley is a great friend) kept "suggesting"... and I finally caved! So here I am... It will be a great accomplishment... But man that's a lot of miles to prepare!!! :)

Welcome to the FRB! Looking forward to seeing you complete Ogden! Jeff and I will be here to keep you on track and motivated.

From Mae Mae on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 11:34:00 from 204.134.132.225

Question for you guys.. Should I try and convert my spinning miles to running miles, or just keep it separate?? I went to spinning class this morning and did 25M.??

Thanks Shadley!!!

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 14:08:33 from 71.219.84.215

I like to keep my miles separate, others convert theirs. Do whatever you want!!! You can add cross training miles to the top of your blog and track it that way, but it does count those miles in your overall miles (which is why I keep mine out--I want to know what I RAN).

You will do great in Ogden!

From Wesley Hunt on Tue, Jan 04, 2011 at 15:48:54 from 198.8.4.25

I agree with Kelli and prefer to track my running miles separately. However, I would certainly blog/record any cross, strength or resistance training workouts that you complete along the way. I actually need to do a better job of this myself...

25 m spinning is good cross training. What's your mileage base looking like right now? You've got a couple weeks before you need to start a 16 week training plan for Ogden. Good luck!

Although I'm glad my run is over today, it's still hard to get my legs moving this early...  Overall not bad, but very very slow today. 10:00 pace..

From Kam on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 12:49:33 from 68.66.163.179

The treadmill lulls you into that pace if you aren't careful. The main thing is, you got the miles completed.

I was finally able to run outside!!! So much better. Thanks Jeff Fogg for the work on my old shoes.  No slipping at all on the ice and snow...  I left work early and went for a run at 2:30 this afternoon.  Great tunes on my ipod, weather not too bad (25 I think) and sun shining on my face..  My average pace was 9:40...  That works for me...  Have a great weekend everyone... :)

Way to make it happen. Chuck told me here that the path was the worst he has ever seen it yesterday...lots of black ice. Did you run on Sunnyside? I thought that maybe I could go park by Hitt and Sunnyside and then run down Sunnyside and back. All the sidewalks are bad leaving my house.

From Mae Mae on Wed, Jan 19, 2011 at 10:17:59 from 204.134.132.225

Yep, I ran from my house to Sunnyside, to Woodruff, then back on 25th. No problem at all. In fact, I wore my normal running shoes.. But it did snow a bit last night so who knows now!!

Good job. That wall is not very motivating. I've found the wall in front of the first TM is better to stare at than the other wall. The music has helped lately. I just try to lose myself in the music and zone out. I think I will run on the TM at home today...a bit better with a big TV in front of me.

Nice sunny day for a run outside.  Not sure what my pace was as my Garmin died on me, but I was at 9:40 at mile 3.  But I did have my son drive out 3M so I would be sure to know where to turn around to get 6 (goal for today) in for today.  Sunnyside path clear until I reached Ammon/Hitt.  A mess after that from the snow fall last night, oh well... Temp 35. My feet were soaked by the time I made it home.. I reached my mileage goal this week. Week one of 18 week training plan under my belt. So far, so good....  I'm a little discouraged on my weight gain since I started faithfully running 3 weeks ago (3lbs), but Jeff Fogg is telling me not to worry.... (dang holidays)  I will admit that my clothes (especially my jeans) are fitting better...  I never EVER weigh myself, but figured I'd start my training knowing my lbs.  Now I only weigh once a week, but I think I won't for another couple of weeks...  I've been eating right too, so it's just frustrating...  I'd like to be around 120-125 so 132 is not that far off I guess (129 was closer).  Can't believe I just threw my weight out there..  WHO CARES.. LOL

NOTE: This is really for Sat, Jan 22nd.  0M on Friday.

Sunny Saturday... Lots of runners out this morning. Took my one year old pup, Miley, with me...  She did awesome until mile 11....  That meant dropping her off at the house and continuing on another 2M!  It about killed me to leave my house.  It was great seeing Jeff at the beginning of my run.  I was thankful for my gatorade drop..  I lost energy towards the end, obviously didn't have enough fuel in my body..  I took my 2nd GU at mile 10, but it was too late.   Average pace was 10:00.  Not what I wanted, but it'll do for today...   Thank goodness for my ipod!!!

Way to get it done. You looked happy to be out running. Sounds like it went fine for you. It was nice to finally be outside.

Hit the wall last week and fell hard!  Unmotivated and burned out..  I'm back on track this week.  Ran 7.7M after work, decent weather.  In fact, it rained towards the end, which I didn't mind at all.  Took Miley with me again.  She loves it.  9:20 average pace.  Sunnyside, SRL loop.

Purchased my new shoes (Mizuno) at Teton Running.  I liked the store, I hope it does well..

Hardest run I've ever done... 16M into the WIND.  Ran to Shelley.  Last week my pace was 9:57 for 15M.  This time my average pace was 10:41, that's how strong the wind was... YUCK.  But I didn't quit...  Hopefully the weather will get better....

That's a good pace for the wind we had. I was in that pace range when I was going straight into it. The marathon will feel easy for you...

Finally!!!!!  A nice day for a run......  Sun was out, I was in shorts, HAPPY DAY!!!!  NO complaints here....  Hopefully it will continue, although the forecast doesn't look too promising.  Bad week last week, so it's time to get re-charged!!!  Decided to do my longer mid week run yesterday since the weather was so nice.  Gearing up for a LONG 18M run on Saturday....

My paln was to head to the gym because of the weather, but when I got home I decided it wasn't that bad.....  Headed out with a little sprinkle...but it quickly turned into a down pour!!!  Miley and I were the only idiots out and about, with the exception of the soccer players at Community Park...  I was soaked, but I managed to get 4M logged.

Well, it was a nice day without the wind so I made arrangements to leave work early and head out for a long run.  Hoping for 18, but ended with 15.  Started to really rain and it was getting dark.  Started out with a 9:25 pace, but ended with a 10:30 pace.  I was tired and didn't have enough GU...  Iced my knees when I got home.  But one way or another I will finish this marathon...  20M scheduled for next Wednesday (work trip over the weekend)....  I'm scared!

Wow, first time ever!  Made it out yesterday for my last long run before Ogden.  Jeff helped me tremendously, set the pace for the first 12.  Then I had to slow down a bit....  That's just a long time to run, but we got it done....  One way or another I'll finish Ogden.  I didn't feel like I hit the "wall", but I was very tired.  No doubt about that.  I'm bit worried about my socks, because I did end up with two large blisters on my big toes.

I ran the Judge Gutierrez 5K at the Hispanic Youth Symposium in Sun Valley.  Probably 100 high school students and a handful of adults!  It was a great afternoon, sun was shining!  I had my personal best:  25:20.  8:09 average pace!  Pretty excited about that.  Thought it was really fun passing a few high school boys at the end!  :) LOL

LET'S DO THIS....

Race: Ogden Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:25:09
Easy MilesMarathon Pace MilesThreshold MilesVO2 Max MilesCrosstraining milesTotal Miles
0.0026.200.000.000.0026.20

26.2!  Didn't think I'd ever be able to do this!!!!  BUT I DID.... My official time was 4:25:09! (10:06 average pace) I was thinking 4:45, Jeff and Jeff were thinking 4:30.  My garmin died at mile 10, so that drove me crazy!  It was fully charged, must be time for a new one.  I had to bug a runner during the race to check my pace.  But maybe it was a good thing I didn't have it.  Weather was perfect for Ogden...  Whoo hoo!!

I've never been so nervous for a race.  I was so worried about cramping and never ending drama of stomach issues.  I knew I'd have to stop and I did! @ M 3 & 13.  I really needed to stop at mile 12, but there was a line and figured I could make it to mile 13, knowing there were be plenty of porta-johns.  Mile 12 was tough.  It was inevitable.  Oh well.

I listened to Jeff's words and walked through each aid station while taking my water and gatorade!  I took a GU every 5 miles.  I also ate oranges every chance I had.  I really think this helped and I was able to make it without any cramping...  Thanks Jeff..

I didn't hit the WALL at Mile 20!  Thank goodness!!!!

Scott met me at mile 23 (thank goodness) and ran with me the last miserable 3 miles!!!  I was so happy to see him and gave him a big hug (all sweaty and stinky, sorry Scott).  Miles 22-25 were horrible, I'm not gonna lie!  I did a lot of walking at mile 23-25 but I knew this would probably happen.  Once we hit Grant Avenue I told Scott to make sure I didn't stop running!!  Well, I didn't and somehow managed to find a little bit of remaining energy.  Man, I wish I had my garmin to see how I did on my last 1/2 mile.  I hit it as hard as I could....

Overall, it was an awesome experience.  While the 18 weeks of training was VERY time consuming, it all paid off in the end.  The 26.2M didn't seem so bad...  One of the best experiences of my life!!!  Well worth it and glad I can officially cross this off my bucket list! :)

SPLITS:

7M - 9:23

1/2 - 9:43

18M - 10:15

23M - 9:59
